Drugs Should NOT be Legal Everyone agrees that something must be done about the tremendous physical and emotional health problems that drug abuse causes. Concern about the abuse of drugs is so widespread that recent polls indicate it to be one of the most serious problems in today's world, threatening the security and freedom of whole nations.
Legalizing recreational drugs does not mean making drugs accesible to all people. The drugs that are legal today, alcohol and tobacco (nicotene) aren’t available to just everyone; they are regulated. Only certain people are allowed to buy them.
Another reason of why it should not be legalized is marijuana is considered a stepping stone to other drugs that are stronger and that are even more addictive. The users of marijuana want to heighten their high by using other stronger drugs (“Is Marijuana”). Other stronger drug use will increase, drug which are more fatal than marijuana.
The other portion prone to addiction does not experiment with drugs due to workplace drug tests or concern for being arrested and unable to secure good employment in the future. When drugs are legalized, a portion of the latter group no longer sees a downside to abusing formerly illegal drugs and soon becomes seriously addicted to one or more substances.
Legal drugs aren't going to get the government out of everything. If you want to change the government, then work on that first. Legalizing drugs will not work magic on our government - that has to be done separately. If the government is not changed prior to drug legalization, then legalized drugs will lead to more government.
In conclusion, I feel that drugs should be legalized but monitored by the government, not only would the government benefit, but so would our society, in the safer environment created by directing the import of drugs and addicts, because as I have said before drugs are part of our society, we have tried and tried, but there is no one way to get rid of them, at least if we have control of them.
